In Loving Memory: Evelyn B. Phillips, age 96, passed away on October 7, 2023 at The Cypress-Preston in Hilton Head Island, SC. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born in Flushing, NY, on August 20, 1927, to her parents, William and Anna Kacin. Evelyn married Richard (Dick) Phillips in 1948, and they lived in Ithaca, NY, while Dick finished his degree at Cornell. They purchased their first home in East Norwich, NY, and moved five times before retiring to Hilton Head in 1992. Evelyn was a dedicated golfer, finding joy on the course, and her love for the game was infectious. Golf wasn’t the only game she enjoyed - she cherished the challenge of Sudoku or a 1000-piece puzzle, was a faithful “Jeopardy” follower, and showcased her competitive spirit in board and card games. Evelyn was also a talented painter and sewer, displaying her creative spirit through her creations. She and Dick were avid travelers, both across the United States and abroad to destinations like Japan and Egypt, bringing home stories and treasures from their adventures. With ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, Evelyn was a true family matriarch whose family will forever hold dear the 96 years of wonderful memories they have with her. She never missed a birthday card or a phone call, and she always greeted her family with open arms. She leaves behind a legacy of creativity, sharpness, and zest for life that will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ames Phillips, her son Michael Douglas Phillips, and her sister Mildred Drasser. Evelyn is survived by her brother, Bill Kacin, NY, and four children: Son Chris Phillips and wife Donna, who reside in CT, son David Phillips and wife Theresa who live in MA, daughter Leslie Phillips Ebert who resides in GA, and daughter Stacey Phillips Stilwell and husband Scott who live in NC. Her family will carry on her spirit and will be holding a Celebration of Life for Evelyn at The Cypress of Hilton Head - 20 Ladyslipper Lane, Hilton Head, SC 29926 on November 11th at 2:00 p.m. All friends and acquaintances are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to First Tee - The Low Country at P.O. Box 23334 Hilton Head, SC, 29925 or www.firstteelowcountry/donate in memory of Evelyn B. Phillips. Your contributions will honor Evelyn and support the beliefs she held dear. Evelyn will be remembered for her smile, her witty humor, and her unconditional love for family and friends. Her presence in our lives brought joy and inspiration. She will forever remain in our hearts. May Mom rest in eternal peace.
