Carol Joan Nelson

Carol Joan Nelson entered eternal life Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in Hilton Head, South Carolina at the age of 91. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Madalyn Rudolf. Carol graduated from Forest Hills High School and Beaver (Arcadia) College. She worked as an engineer for Grumman for some time before finding her passion in teaching. She taught math in Long Island, where she met her beloved husband of 64 years, Donald Nelson. Carol and Donald raised their children in North Merrick, New York before retiring to Homosassa, Florida. They then relocated to Hilton Head Island to be closer to family. Carol was a wonderful, active lady who enjoyed cooking, golf, bridge, sudoku, knitting and traveling. She was a devout Catholic whose faith guided her to a life of thoughtful caring for her family, friends and those in need. She was the loving mother of Karen Clarke (Tom) and Denise Yurish (Mark) and was “Gram” to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, soon to be four. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of the Sea Catholic Church on April 26th at 10am.
