Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - Ladson
Geneva Nugent
May 22nd, 2019
JOHNS ISLAND SC--Geneva Nugent, age 84, died at Roper Hospice Cottage in Mount Pleasant, SC on May 22, 2019, in the arms of her three daughters. She was born on March 27, 1935 in Chickasaw, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jess and Georgia Hembree. Upon graduation at El Reno High School in El Reno, Oklahoma, at age 17, Geneva married her high school sweet heart, Jerry Nugent. Their marriage thrived for 66 years, until her husband preceded her in death on January 1, 2019. Geneva was an enrolled tribal citizen of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. Being a U.S. Marine Corps wife, Geneva moved frequently with her husband whenever he was transferred around the country. Geneva gave birth to four children, Jay Lynn Earl, Dawnita Sue Golomb, Kathryn Louise Davis, and a son, Steven Uel Nugent; he preceded her in death as an infant. Geneva enjoyed her husband's early retirement from the Department of the Army in 1978, by selling their home in Bowie, Maryland, and buying a 38 foot trawler. As full-time liveaboards, they sailed the Chesapeake Bay, Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico for the next several years, before settling again in Lake Placid, Florida. They moved to Johns Island, South Carolina in 2016. Geneva is survived by her 8 Grandchildren, Anthony Drula, Nicholas Drula, Justin Golomb, Dana Golomb Brownley, Wesley Davis, Timothy Davis, Hannah Davis Chappell, and Zachary Davis, and 9 Great Grandchildren. A memorial service for Geneva officiated by Pastor Marilyn Clifford was held on May 24, 2019 at Simplicity Lowcountry in Ladsen, South Carolina.
