John Alphonse Lightner
October 8th, 1941 - November 1st, 2020
John A Lightner ABHC USN Retired entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2020. John was born to John William (Jack) Lightner and Estelle Theriault Lightner on October 8, 1941 in Barberton, Ohio. John attended Barberton High School and at the age of 19 enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for 20 years, retiring in 1981. He then moved on to South Carolina in 1986 to work for Surface Technologies Corporation on the Charleston, SC Navy Base for 12 years before retiring. John was a member of Santee Circle Community Church in Moncks Corner, SC. He dearly loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and had a strong desire for those who were lost to have that same relationship with Jesus. He also loved his church family. Few people ever forgot meeting John, his love of talking to and meeting new people, his bigger than life personality, and sense of humor. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. John enjoyed Gospel music, bass fishing, Nascar Races, and was one of the Clemson Tigers biggest fans. He leaves behind his wife Carla M Lightner, his daughter Jessica Wingfield Cantrell of Summerville, SC, his sister Janis Scott of Barberton, Ohio, his brother Gerald Lightner of Moncks Corner, SC, his mother in law Carol A. Taylor of Barberton, Ohio; his Brother in laws Matt Taylor (Judy) of Wadsworth, Ohio and Shane Taylor (Rachel) of Massillon, Ohio , his sister in laws Kimberly Graham, and Karen Burner (James) all of Barberton, Ohio and numerous nieces, & nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother, his sister Rene Hicks, and his brother Thomas G Lightner. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, November 21st 2020 at 1:00 pm @ Santee Circle Community Church 1258 N. Hwy 52. PO Box 1091 Moncks Corner, SC 29461. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Santee Circle Community Church Mission Trip Fund.
