John Thomas Baker, 72 of Summerville, SC passed away on November 23, 2021 at Trident Hospital with his family by his side after a prolonged illness. John was born April 13, 1949 in Bethune, SC, the son of the late John Edward Baker and Lula Lee Williams. John was a veteran of the US Army, served as a Dorchester County Sheriffs Deputy for many years and then retired from the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, SC in 2014. He worked part time for Dorchester County Family Court until recently. He loved to golf and shag. John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cynthia B. Baker, daughter Becky (Bill) Welch of Ridgeville, SC. Son Chris (Christy) Sweatman of Smoaks, SC. Grandchildren McKenzie (Shannon) Ammons of Columbia, SC, Ashley (Sumner) Schreiber of Greenville, SC, Waylon Welch of Ridgeville, SC, Geneffer Sweatman of Clemson, SC and Jackson Sweatman of Smoaks, SC, one great grandson Wade Stackhouse Ammons III. He also leaves behind his special four legged companion Sassy.
