Genevieve Cox Austin

Genevieve Cox Austin, 82, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, after battling multiple health issues. She was born on August 8, 1941, in Horry County, SC, to the late William J. Cox, Sr. and Nina Boyd Cox. She was preceded in death by two sons: Ronnie Austin and Timmy Austin. Genevieve is survived by her son, Ricky Austin of Sandridge, SC; son, Joey Austin of Summerville, SC; and son, Jeff Austin, of Sandridge, SC; brother, Jimmy Cox (Diane) of Manning, SC; sister, Wilma Browder of Summerville, SC; and sister, Linda Cooper (Gary) of Summerville, SC. She will also be dearly missed by many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The mother of five sons, Gen held an unwavering loyalty to her family and loved sharing animated stories about them. Her laugh held a tone just as beautiful as her voice whether singing “Amazing Grace” or Patsy Cline’s “Crazy.” She spent many years playing softball in the Sandridge and New Hope communities and later loved cheering for her grandchildren at baseball games. She enjoyed reeling in a bream or crappie, yelling bingo, and spending time around the kitchen table playing Yahtzee with her family. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Heritage Holiness Church, 3836 Ladson Road, Ladson, SC 29456. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am with a memorial service beginning at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Heritage Holiness Church can be made in Gen’s memory.
