Memorial

Patricia L. Simes, 81, widow of her beloved husband (Ret.) Col. Thomas A. Simes, died Friday, August 2, 2013 peacefully at her home in Charleston, SC. She was born October, 8, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of the late Steward and Agnes Condo. Patricia (Pat, Tish, Patsy) was the most loving, gracious, beautiful wife, mom, grandma, great-grandmama, and friend. She was loved by all and many times people would comment on how she had a glow around her, like an angel of God. She truly was a gift to all. Patricia grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and traveled the world as a military wife who at one point raised 5 children all under the age of 10 while her husband served in Vietnam. That’s the kind of woman she was. She was every child’s dream of the “perfect” mother. She was our best friend. She supported many charities of God and was a member of the Theresians International and The Nativity Parish. She loved her church and its people. Tom and Pat were married on June 13, 1953 in Cincinnati, Ohio at St. Cecilia Church in Oakley. After years of service in the military, Tom and “Tish” set up roots on James Island. They bought their dream home in Clearview where they had the most wonderful “golden years” filled with family, friends and a lifetime of memories and stories to cherish. Everyone that walked through the front door was greeted with open arms, a big hug and if you were lucky, a pinch on the cheek. They cherished their many friends, which meant the world to them. Swimming in the pool, fishing and paddle boating on the lake, playing “school” on the steps, running in the backyard, swinging on the swing, eating popsicles, popping popcorn, eating grandma’s famous “grilled cheese”, scrambled eggs with ketchup, being sung, “I Love You a Bushel and a Peck”, celebrating many holidays and traditions and a grandchild’s dream at papa and grandma/grandmama’s house. She is survived by her sister Jane Hornsby of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her children Thomas P. Simes (Marielena), Brian J. Simes, David K. Simes and daughter Katherine A. Simes; grandchildren, Peter Simes, Michelle Simes, Annelise Simes, Annastaia Martinez-Simes and Hunter Martinez-Simes; great-grandchildren, James T. Simes-Donovan and Annabelle Simes; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son John W. Simes, her grandson Nicholas T. Simes-Donovan, her sisters, Evelyn Binder, Dorothy Reiners, Alice Reiners and brother William Condo, of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11:00 am at The Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road, James Island, SC. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the The Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road, James Island, SC and Theresians International, 1237 West Monroe Street, Springfield, Illinois 62704.
