Lewis David Wright
August 13th, 1937 - July 22nd, 2019
Lewis David Wright, 81, of Mount Pleasant, SC passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on July, 22, 2019. He was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, lovingly known as PawPaw. He was born on August 13, 1937 to the late Clarence and Esther Wright in Franklin, Georgia. Lewis joined the US Army in 1955, proudly serving his country for 22 years, a Bronze Star recipient, finally retiring as Sergeant 1st Class. During his military career, he was assigned to many duty stations around the world, including 2 tours in Vietnam, Fort Sam Houston TX, Regensburg, Germany, Fort Knox KY, Korea and Fort Benning GA. PawPaw was known for his perfection and expertise in just about everything, especially the Bible, westerns, automobiles and carpentry. He loved his gospel and bluegrass music, cornbread, catfish, and his daughter’s biscuits. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at 11:00am at Sea Island Baptist Church, 2793 Abbapoola Road, Johns Island, SC. Viewing will be held at 10:00 am at the church prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC. Lewis is survived by his wife Frances Wright, of 40 years. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Kathy Penington and Lisa Puckett and her husband Richard; grandchildren Jason Penington of Johns Island, Erin Penington and fiancé James McMillian of Wadmalaw Island, Michael Hagerty and wife Kate of Brussels, Belgium, Grayson Puckett of Mount Pleasant, and Anthony Puckett also of Mount Pleasant; great-grandchild Zoey Rae Hagerty of Brussels, Belgium. He is also survived by his brothers Sonny Wright and Mason Wright, and his sisters Janice Smith, Lois Laster, and Ilene Purgason. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Patrick Walter Wright, and his brothers James Wright, Marvin Wright and Leon Wright. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in his honor to the National Kindey Foundation. https://www.kidney.org/
