David Franklin Baxley

David Franklin Baxley, Sr., 79, of Charleston, SC entered into everlasting life with family members by his side on Sunday, January 15, 2017. He was born on July 30, 1937 in Blackville, SC, to the late Norman W. Baxley and Lula Rosalee Still Baxley. He retired from Piedmont Airlines and US Airways. His lifetime hobbies were creating beautiful stained glass art and writing and telling his own stories as a much loved storyteller. He taught hundreds of students the art of stained glass at Forsyth Tech. in Winston-Salem, NC. More recently he enjoyed telling his life time stories of growing up in South Carolina, to friends and family and also at many other venues as nursing homes and campgrounds. He and his wife Gail loved traveling and spent the last fourteen months traveling the United States and volunteering at various mission projects with SC Baptist Campers on Mission. He is survived by his loving wife Gail McDonald Baxley, four children Teresa Whittington, David Baxley Jr. (Kerri), Donna Holton (Gene) and Keith Varnadoe (Malia); nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind two brothers John Baxley and George Baxley (Peggy) and a sister Lois Cromer. He was loved by many who knew and met him. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Rd., Charleston, SC at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2017. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Charleston Baptist Church, Hope Lodge of Charleston or Hospice of Charleston.
