Bobby Carroll Watkins
February 21st, 1944 - March 2nd, 2024
I was born Bobby Carroll Watkins in Farmville, Virgnia on February 21, 1944, to Gladys Watkins James. During our childhood, my older sister, Christine, aka Tina and I loved playing games like marbles, and running around the yard entertaining ourselves. I was also a bookworm. I especially enjoyed reading comic books. I moved to Long Island, New York with several friends in the early 1960s. We all eventually worked at Jamaica Ash (formerly Westbury Paper Stock). However, I remained employed there for over 40 years as a truck driver until my retirement in 2006. During those years also I developed my skills as a mechanic by working on cars in my spare time. While living in Westbury, I met, fell in love and married Mary Atkinson and started a family. We had four children, two boys and two girls. Our family time included trips to amusement parks, the beach and of course road trips to visit family in South Carolina and Virginia. We enjoyed going to wrestling matches and watching now classic television shows including the Six Million Dollar Man and Kung Fu. I also taught my kids how to ride a bike and how to drive. As members of a van club, Mary and I took several camping trips to many states. After moving permanently to South Carolina, I continued to keep busy working full-time as a truck driver at Port City Concrete. I also served on staff at Ashley Missionary Baptist Church. I was called Home to Our Father on March 2, 2024. I am preceded in death by my loving mother, Gladys Leone Watkins and beloved son, Marvin. I leave to remember and cherish my love, my wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Lee Watkins, daughters Yvonne and Angela, son David, grandson Karim, granddaughter Aubrey, great-grandson Zion and great-granddaughters Kylie and Skye, my beloved sister Christine Watkins, sister-in-law Helen Logan, brother in-law Franklin Atkinson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The Watkins family would like to give special mention to Brother Leroy Williams, Pastors Jacqueline and Samuel Middleton, Christine Watkins and Ashley Missionary Baptist Church members. We would like to thank everyone for your kind words, prayers and support during this tim
