Don Harvey Morris
July 17th, 1940 - March 19th, 2021
Mr. Don Harvey Morris, beloved husband, father and grandfather, entered into eternal rest on March 19, 2021. Mr. Morris was born in New Zion, Clarendon County, SC, on July 17, 1940, a son of the late Harrison McCullum Morris and Janie Marie Barker Morris. He was the Valedictorian of his graduating class at East Clarendon High School and served as a Page for the SC House of Representatives while attending the University of South Carolina. After graduation, he worked at the SC Tax Commission, the SC Trade School, and retired from Midlands Technical College. He married the former Betty Peach in 1965. Don was a First Lieutenant in the SC Army National Guard and a Mason in the Jamil Temple. Don was active in community service as President of the Cayce-West Columbia Jaycees, the Rotary Club of Cayce, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Don was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church and former deacon. He was a Gamecock fan and loved the outdoors. He participated in fishing, hunting, gardening; coached youth sports; and played on slow pitch softball teams into his fiftieth year. He was a fan of John Wayne, cowboy movies, and good barbecue. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Peach Morris; his daughter, Sharon Morris Barrs (Keith), and his son, Keith Harvey Morris (Emily); grandchildren: Katherine Renee Barrs, Jacob Morris Barrs, Lawson McCullum Morris, and Brayden Abbigail Morris; a brother, Roger William Morris (Della) of Charleston, and two sisters, Linda M. Ross and Dianne M. Stephens (Benjamin) of Dalzell; and three sisters-in-law, Lola H. Morris, Murrells Inlet, and Martha P. Morris, Beaufort, and Ann H. Morris, Centre, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Eula Morris, Judge James McCullum Morris, Harry Lee Morris, Olin Franklin Morris Sr. and sisters, Wanna Mary M. Elliott, Doris M. Hyde Wheeler, and Claudia Belle D. Hamby. Graveside funeral services celebrating his life will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park on March 23, 2021, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Michael Bragan will officiate. Following the service, the family will greet friends at graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1112 Hummingbird Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169, Midlands Technical Foundation, PO Box 2409, Columbia, SC 29202, or the Alzheimer’s Association, A Ride to Remember, 4124 Clemson Blvd Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
