Wayne Pittman
June 17th, 1945 - July 7th, 2021
A Celebration of Life Service for Wayne Pittman, 76, of Irmo, will be announced at a later date. Woodridge Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Wayne Pittman went to be with Jesus on July 7, 2021. Born in Wilson, NC on June 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Elmer and Elsie Pittman. He was a gifted, self-taught guitarist. He was the writer of the popular 1968 hit song, “I’m a Girl Watcher” and was the leader of the band “The O’Kaysions”. He was a beloved father and “O’Pa” who loved to spend time with his daughters who he endearingly called “Shugs” and his grandchildren, especially when sharing his passion for music by teaching guitar, singing, or piano. He loved playing for his grandchildren in school talent shows and sharing the stage for The O’Kaysions with his daughters. He was admired and loved. O’Pa Wayne proudly attended any game, dance performance or recital that his grandkids were involved with, but if you ask them, their favorite memories include going to look at Christmas lights in Opa’s van together and driving down “thrill hill” with him. Wayne was a highly intelligent man who loved talking about the Bible and politics and will be remembered for his love of God and music, strong work ethic, memory, and love for his family. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Lindy Wells; his devoted daughters, Renee Leonard (Ty), Dawn Cromer (D.T.), and Erika Goodwin (Justin); 8 grandchildren who he loved dearly, Austin (Savannah), Ashlyn, Annie, David, Ellie, Logan, Dillon, and Addisyn; the mother of his children, Linda Pittman; sister, Dorothy Barnes and brothers, William I Pittman (Pat), Jimmy Pittman (Janice); his wife Lindy’s daughter, Amanda Applebee (Patrick); sisters-in-law, Rebecca Gobble (Dennis), Sylvia Lorick. In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his siblings, Carlton Pittman, Jessie Gray Sisk, Anna Lee Kucyk, Harold Pittman, Marjorie Cooper, and Ida Cox.
