Ronald "Ron" Paul Bernhardt, 79, of Gilbert, South Carolina, passed away February 21, 2018 in Gilbert, South Carolina. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 2, 1939 to Leo William Bernhardt and Ester Minna Schmitman Bernhardt. Ron worked as a maintenance engineer at AT&T, where he retired. He also served in the US Army for four years. In his free time, Ron, also known as "Pop Pop," enjoyed working on cars with his son Brian, enjoyed fixing things, working in the yard, watching science fiction, animated movies, spending time with children, grandchildren and dancing with his beloved wife, Peggy. Ron and Peggy enjoyed cruises with their children and beach trips with family. In his younger days, he enjoyed mud running and playing golf. He was a giving person, always looking for ways he could help by offering his talents as a "fix it" man to family and friends. Ron is survived by his wife, Peggy (Neal) Bernhardt. He is also survived by his daughter, Kerry Lynn Franklin of Chapin; his son, Brian Eric Bernhardt of Irmo; his only brother, Douglas Bernhardt of Chapin; 2 grandsons, James Tyler Franklin, Eric Kyle Franklin and future great grandson, James Wyatt Franklin. He also had one step-son, Carl Cameron Neal, Jr.; two step daughters, Kimberly Neal Chabra, Pamela Neal Reeder; 7 step-grandchildren, Cole Chabra Kazmarski, Mae Chabra Phelps, Larz Chabra Anthony, Carl Cameron Neal, Cazual Nation Neal, Breanna Raquel Reeder, and Tug Abram Reeder; and three step-great grandchildren, Rowen Olivia Kazmarski, Vera Rose Kazmarski, Evelyn Joe Anthony. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday,March 2, 2018 at Southern Oaks Event Venue, 2401 US 378, Gilbert, SC, 29054. Flowers may be sent to this location.
