Ret. Army SFC James D. Sharpe, 82, of Leesville, SC passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning September 18, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born June 17, 1930 in Richland County, SC he was the son of the late Clarence E. Sr and Estell Joyner Sharpe. SFC Sharpe proudly served his country with over 20 years of service and three tours in Vietnam. During his military career he worked as a helicopter technician. SFC Sharpe received numbers award and decorations. Besides his parents, James is predeceased by three brothers Bobby, Clarence Jr and Alton Sharpe. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years Joyce Sharpe whom he married on September 11, 1947; daughters Violet Stull (Richard) of Chester, SC, Lillian Jacob of Saluda, SC, Sharon Hammond (Bill) of Lexington, SC, Ronda Sharpe of Pittsview, AL and Cindy Sharpe (Bobby Corley) of Saluda, SC; sons David Sharpe (Linda) of Irmo, SC and Wayne Sharpe (Georgia) of Gilbert, SC; sisters Mary Ann Outlaw of Richland County, SC, Frances Vincent (Luther) of Lexington, SC, Jean Baughman (James) of Lexington, SC and Thelma Patton (David) of Richland County, SC; brothers Robert and Charles Sharpe. James is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11 A.M. in Woodridge Memorial Park 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations please be made in James memory to Palmetto Health Children?s Hospital 7 Richland Medical Park Columbia, SC 29203.
