Carole Scarborough Barnes
August 9th, 1944 - February 28th, 2024
Carole Scarborough Barnes, 79, of West Columbia, ran into Heaven on the afternoon of February 28, 2024. She was known as loving wife, momma, Grandma and “Barnes”. Carole was born on August 9, 1944 in Early County, GA to Carlton and Louise (Hay) Scarborough also of Early County. She is survived by her “dreamboat” of 61 years, Rev. Ernest Owen Barnes and 3 daughters, Margaret Ann (Kenny) Hampton, Wanda Carole (David) Carlson and Priscilla Jane (Alex) Hawkins. She was Grandma to Michael (Regina) Hampton, Nicholas (Noemi) Hampton, Rachel (Daniel) Kimbell, Scott Carlson, Stephen (Kaylin), Carlson, Jonathan Carlson, Jeremy Hawkins, Carolyn Hawkins and Owen Hawkins. She was also great grandma to Boone Hampton, Oliver Hampton, Marley Hampton, Porter Hampton, Luke Kimbell, Joshua Carlson and Annabeth Carlson and many others that considered her as their grandmother. She is also survived by her sister, Sara McLain of Tifton, GA and brother, Ed Scarborough of Iron City, GA. Along with her parents, Carole is predeceased by her brothers, Lamar and Millard, her in-laws, John and Mathel Barnes and granddaughter, Emily Ann Carlson. Carole held many jobs, the main one being a pastor’s wife for over 50 years. Among her favorites was also seamstress, homemaker, crafter and being “Barnes” to over 70 children through her in-home daycare for 13 years. In her later years, she worked for Home Instead as a care giver and at Lourie Senior Center. Here, she taught arthritis exercise class and gathered with her “bead buddies” every week to craft beautiful jewelry and enjoy fellowship. Pallbearers will be Carole's grandsons and the honorary pallbearers will be the children of "Barnes Day Care". The family would like to thank retired cardiologist, Dr. Richard Umbach, doctors and nurses of Lexington Medical Heart & Vascular Center, Lexington Medical Center nurses/CNAs, caregivers at NHC and the wonderful caregivers of Abbey Road Hospice. Donations may be made in Carole’s memory to Columbia FWB Church, P. O. Box 90838 Columbia, SC 29290.
