David Gilbert Benjamin Garcia, Fmr Sgt. U.S. Marines
David was born in Wheat Ridge, CO. He was raised in Broomfield, CO where he graduated from Northglenn High School. He then attended Colorado Northwest Community College in Rangeley, CO on a wrestling scholarship, receiving a two year degree in Physical Education.
In 1993, David joined the United States Marine Corps. He served just over five years and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was responsible for logistics and embarkation and was part of a helicopter crew stationed at Tustin USMCD then later El Toro USMCD, both in Southern California. During his five year term he was deployed twice, living and working on ships, transporting helicopters. David was always extremely proud to be a United States Marine. Upon his discharge, he moved back to CO.
In 2004 David continued his college education at Metropolitan State College (now MSU) where he earned, with honors, his undergraduate degree in Social Work. He went on to earn his graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Denver, focusing on at risk youth. In 2007, he began working as a Social Worker for Denver Public Schools, with the last several years serving the students at Emily Griffith High School.
In January of 2023 David was diagnosed with metastatic esophageal cancer. He fought a hard battle and was determined to never give up. He never did give up, he continued fighting courageously until the end. David passed away peacefully at home with his family.
"God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you
And whispered 'Come with Me.'"
"Come With Me"
- Poem by Rhonda Braswell
David is predeceased by his father Gil and grandparents. He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughters Autumn (Tim), Ava and Aria, mother Debbie, brother Mark, and numerous aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
David was a son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, husband, father, mentor, Marine, and so much more. He will be missed deeply.
