The Springs Funeral Services - Platte
J. "Kathy" Kathleen Beck
November 2nd, 1944 - June 5th, 2024
Kathy was born in Fairbanks, Alaska to Richard and Anne Becker. After three years the family moved to the Seattle area where she lived until graduation from college. She met her husband at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She obtained a Masters of Library Science degree at the University of Denver. Books, language and reading were her passions. She was a reference and children’s librarian and story-teller at two public library districts in the Denver area and lastly a part-time librarian at Pikes Peak Library District in Colorado Springs. She was the “go-to” “grammar” person in the family.
She is survived by her husband, Ron, of 56 years; and two sons, Travis and daughter-in-law, Sarah and granddaughter, Alexandra, and Colin and his partner, Robin, and grandson, Beckett. An older brother, Barry Becker, resides in Washington state.
Kathy was very active in her church, First Congregational Church of Colorado Springs, leading the weekly bible study group, writing weekly devotional messages and organizing the church library. She was a meticulous hand-quilter, member of a book group and weekly hiking group. Her major in college was German and she maintained her fluency by reading detective novels and all the Harry Potter series in German. She regularly attended a German speaking discussion group at the local library.
Kathy and Ron have traveled extensively internationally to six continents, most recently to Newfoundland/Labrador in Canada. She recorded each trip in a detailed diary. She touched many lives in a positive way and will be greatly missed.
