David Bryan Carter, Sr., age 61, died on July 14, 2021. David was born in Albany, Oregon on January 23, 1960. He attended North Salem High School before joining the U.S. Army in 1978. David was a tribal member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. During his military service, David was stationed in Germany and specialized in atomic demolition. He worked at the Oregon State Hospital until 1999. He enjoyed sports and was a coach for various basketball, softball, and soccer teams. David was preceded in death by parents Tom and Wanda Lingo; sister Diane Naegele-Huie; and mother and father-in-law Lola and Ray Tunnell. David is survived by his wife Karen Tunnell; children Sean Carter, Jason Carter, Michael Wolfe, Justin Bruns, Bill Bruns, Amanda Carter and David Bryan Carter, Jr.; and 11 grandchildren. He is survived by sisters Anita Carlson and Wynnette Gentemann (Salem, OR) and Cheryl Taylor (Portland, OR); and brother Michael Carter (Salem, OR). David touched many lives and was involved in events special to his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted caretaker to his mother during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A viewing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 20, 2021, at Crown Memorial, 275 Lancaster Drive SE in Salem.
