Floyd Paul Hawkins was received into heaven on Thursday, July 29, 2021. "Paul" as he was known by friends and family alike was born into a family of five children on February 26, 1934, in Grangeville, Idaho. His most recent residence was in Salem, Oregon, where he resided with his wife and oldest daughter. He is survived by his wife Dixie Hawkins, and his children Jeanne Hawkins of Salem, Oregon, Scott Hawkins of Vancouver, Washington, and Gwen Hawkins-Morse of Tacoma, Washington. After a short tour in the Navy, dad held various positions in the logging and paper industry and then worked for 28-years at Weyerhaeuser, in Longview, Washington. He and his wife Dixie then moved to Oregon and more recently into Salem, his final place of residence. You could always find him working in the yard, but he was never too busy to chat with his neighbors or help them out in their time of need. He was a giving and thoughtful man to everyone he met. Dad loved going to church, and to the to the local Fred Meyer for a cup of coffee and a chat with anyone who gave him the time of day. One of his best sayings, "Every day is a good day, some are just better than others," will be forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. As a dad, he was one of the best. Always giving of his time, his talents, his energy, and his entire self, to help us, guide us, and encourage us. He was a talented craftsman and created many beautiful pieces of furniture to grace the homes of his family members. He had a mischievous side to him which we all knew and loved. Dad loved reading Louis L'Amour books and watching western movies whenever he got the chance. He was always up for a game of chess or Monopoly when we were younger, but most days, his favorite place in the world was his workshop. He would pop in a book or cd and work on his woodcraft projects. It was the best place to find him in, because it truly was his special space. The love and care for nature were evidenced in his woodwork. One family member stated, "Uncle Paul was definitely one of the best. I will remember him most for his warmth and kindness and for his artistic talents." This sentiment was voiced over and over throughout messages over that first day. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and neighbors as he truly was one of a kind. In lieu of a memorial, a family gathering will be held at a later date. --
