Avanelle "Ava" J. Powell

Avanelle Powell was born December 26, 1936 in Spearman, TX to Frank and Fern Hogsett, and woke up in the arms of Jesus on January 21, 2018 at her home in Denver, CO. Ava loved her family unconditionally, and frequently said that the best thing that ever happened to her was being our Mom. She is survived by her children David Powell and wife Phyllis of Lubbock, TX, Lynne Riggan and husband Russell of Dallas, TX, Teresa Reed and husband Mike of Lubbock, TX, and Ruth Bush and husband Bobb of Phoenix, AZ. She was Grandma Ava to seven grandchildren, Ryan Morgan, Kayla Keele and husband Trevor, Jenn Morgan, Bryan Reed, Eric Riggan and wife Ruth, Aaron Riggan and wife Melissa, and Kevin Powell, as well as one great-grandson Caspian Keele. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, and is survived by two sisters Joan Graham and Betty Willard. Ava had a wonderfully positive outlook and sunny disposition, a true servant’s heart, and was an advocate for the less fortunate. The highlight of her week was delivering Meals On Wheels, and also enjoyed her work knitting prayer shawls, sewing for the Haiti project, and working with the TRYAD community just to name a few. She knew her Lord and Savior intimately, and talked to Him often. She treasured her church family of 45 years at Littleton Church of Christ. Her children do indeed “Arise and call her blessed (Proverbs 31:29), and she has “Fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith, and there is in store for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to her on that day (II Timothy 4:7-8.) In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to either TLC Meals On Wheels at tlcmealsonwheels.org or checks made out to TRYAD Ministries and sent c/o Dan Foster, 3095 South Winona Court, Denver, CO 80236. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018, Funeral Service 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018, both all Littleton Church of Christ, 6495 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery. A Reception will follow the burial at the Church.
