Dana R. Winchell
April 26th, 1946 - November 12th, 2018
Dana Reed Winchell, husband, father, master wood worker, outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2018 after a long, but courageous battle with cancer. Dana was born April 26, 1946 in Grants Pass, Oregon. He lived his entire life in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He was a journeyman carpenter for over 20 years, and then started his own construction business doing what he loved, creating elegant home improvements. As point of pride, he used his phenomenal carpentry skills, and personally built his loving wife of 51 years their home where they resided for over 25 years, fulfilling the promise he made on the day they met. Family was everything to Dana. The women in his life included his mom Eileen Winchell (deceased). He worshipped his wife of 51 years, Donna Winchell, and was a wonderful father to Danette (Brandon) May; and a loving grandpa to three granddaughters, Jessica (Cody) Pfefferkorn, Haley (Jesse) Kerchal, and Trinity Winchell. Dana was so proud of his son Darold (Dyan) Winchell and was totally enamored of his new great-grandson Tristan Pfefferkorn. He was also a good friend to his step-brother Karl Winchell. He taught everyone to laugh, to love, and to just be thankful. He lived every day to the fullest. He loved water skiing, racing radio-control boats and enjoying nature in his own backyard; watching the hummingbirds, jays and finches along with other wildlife that roamed his property. He had a life-long love affair with Coca-Cola, chocolate, shelties, cars and tools. Dana loved camping and boating with his family and only stayed in the finest quality campgrounds, tents and occasional boat deck. Later in life he included his pack of shelties in his travels and rarely left the house without them. Visitation 1:00-2:00 pm on Monday, November 26, 2018 followed by Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, both at Elizabeth Presbyterian Church, 325 S. Banner Street in Elizabeth, Colorado.
