Memorial

Melba Jean Nunn (Davis) danced into heaven at 11 AM Mountain Time on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Jean had a remarkable life full of adventures, joys, tragedies, and challenges, but she wanted most for people to know that her God walked with her through it all since she was 4 years old. And, her God was with her in the peaceful passing into His care. She left a statement to share: “He has never left me nor forsaken me, and now I am beholding Him face to face!” Jean was a creative person, mastering oil painting, doll making, ceramics, photography, crocheting, knitting, quilting...it is a long list. Her home looked like a beautiful museum of many of her lovely things. She also had a love of gardening – watching things come to life to create beauty. In addition, she was a published author of several articles in Christian magazines and a book, We’ll Fly Away, of her experience when her beloved husband, Dave, was lost in a plane crash in 1975. She went to school in the medical field (Registered Medical Assistant) and worked for a short time in pediatrics, but her lifelong fascination was with natural medicine. Jean volunteered frequently to help those who were in medical need by transporting them to appointments, sitting with them, and helping in their homes. Jean’s heart yearned for people to know her Jesus. She had an ongoing interest in a variety of mission works, likely starting from a 3-year military assignment to Japan in the late 1950s. She supported Love a Child, a feeding, orphanage, medical mission in Haiti, for many years. She also supported 4 children around the world: 2 boys from Cambodia and 2 girls, 1 from Ethiopia and 1 from Haiti. Jean was born on November 3, 1933 to Alva and Lura Akins in Meeker, Oklahoma. She lived 87 amazing years! Jean is survived by her 4 daughters – Leilani Johnson (husband: Don) in CO; Joyce Cerotsky (husband: Gary) in OR; Jan Ferguson in TX; and, Jeannie Two Teeth in OR. She has 5 living grandchildren: Jeremy (wife: Leigh) in CO; Loren Hoskins (wife: Janelle) in OR; Aaron Hoskins in HI; Kana Ferguson in TX; Shaun Ferguson (wife: Jaime) in TX. And, Jenny Palmer, is a granddaughter-in-law (husband: Kyeath) in TX. She also had 8 great-grandchildren: Shinaiya Ferguson in TX; DJ Ferguson in FL; Wesley Johnson in CO; Eli Ferguson in TX; Hazel Hoskins in OR; Chloe Ferguson in TX: Victoria Johnson in CO; and, Emily Johnson in CO. And, she has a younger brother, James Carl Akins, living in Oklahoma. Waiting for her in heaven were her childhood sweetheart, David Nunn, her parents, Alva and Lura Akins, her older sister Virginia Dillard, her older brother, Alva Akins Jr., and one grandson, Kyeath Palmer. And, so many other family members and friends who were there to welcome her home. Her message to those of us still waiting is “get ready for the wedding feast!” No services are planned due to the current status of COVID-19. Jean will be interred next to her first love, David Lee Nunn, in Klamath Memorial Park in Klamath Falls, Oregon. In leui of flowers, please plant a tree instead.
