Jack A. McBurney, 67, formerly of Cedar, Iowa, passed away on February 8, 2023 at his home in Denver, Colorado. Jack was born on March 26, 1955 in Mahaska County to Orville and Gertrude Arnold McBurney. He grew up in Cedar and graduated from Eddyville High School, class of 1973. He went on to Oral Roberts University, graduating with a Bachelors Degree class of 1978. Jack began his concessions career at the Mahaska County Fair, where he met Tom and Nancy Evans. He travelled all over Iowa and the Midwest with Evans United Shows selling corndogs, cotton candy and popcorn at county and state fairs. Two of his favorites were The Iowa State Fair and the Clear Lake 4th of July celebration on the square at Clear Lake, Iowa. Two of his biggest spots were The Tulsa State Fair in Oklahoma and The National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado. Jack met a lot friends along the way and considered them family, seeing them year to year when he was on the road. He taught quite a few of them to dip corndogs and sling candy in one of his many trailers. Soon after some found themselves working fifteen hour days and moving to a new town each week. He made his home in Denver, Colorado and enjoyed many years of skiing and snowboarding at Breckenridge Ski Resort. He loved spending time at his condo there where he had many friends. Jack attended church at Calvary South Denver. Surviving is his sister Judy (Ron) Kielkopf, one niece and four nephews: Michael (Denise) McBurney, Brenda (Brooke) McBurney Todd, Bruce (Donna) McBurney, John (Lori) Kielkopf, and Todd (Ann) Kielkopf. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Gertrude McBurney, and a brother, Keith McBurney. His body has been cremated and family burial will take place at a later date.
