Betty A. Arndt

Elizabeth (Betty) Redpath Arndt passed away September 21st, 2023, with her loving husband, Don Arndt, by her side. Betty was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 27th, 1933, to John and Marie Redpath. At a young age, she met Don while riding horses. Years later, with Betty in Chicago and Don in California, they began writing letters, the romance bloomed, and they married in 1959. Leaving Chicago, Betty began her lifelong adventure with Don and headed west to live by the ocean. Their journey together included raising four children, travel, and living in beautiful places such as Laguna Beach, California, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and Parker, Colorado. From a young age, she loved art. She began painting seriously in the 1960s and continued to paint for over 50 years. Her award-winning, colorful oil and watercolor paintings bring joy to homes across the country. A constant supporter of the arts and a member of art associations in multiple states, she was a founding member of the Parker Artists Guild. Being part of a creative community was important to her, and she valued the friendships she made with other artists. Encouraging and optimistic, Betty shared her love of life with all of her children and grandchildren. She was known to say, “I’m not old, just older.” She made the best banana cream pie and her cookies and brownies disappeared quickly. She put creativity in everything she did, whether collecting art, antiques, and books or sharing her joy of art. An enthusiastic reader and longtime library volunteer, Betty also enjoyed family genealogy, long walks, and faithful pets, Snowball and Joko. Betty is survived by her husband, Don, and children Don Arndt, Jr., Lisa Arndt Thompson (Lee), Anne Marie Arndt, and Carolyn Arndt Calfee (Tom). Betty was a much-loved grandmother to Kara Arndt, Ryan Arndt (Novena), Kerry Thompson, Kaitlin Thompson Kotz (Henry), Brandy Krachmer (Tom), Sean Mitchell, Cayla Calfee Poore (Preston), Evan Calfee, and great-granddaughter, Mia Kotz. She is preceded in death by her brother, Jack Redpath, and daughter-in-law, Lori Handel Arndt. Betty loved her siblings, Jack, Patricia Wenzel (Arthur), and Bob Redpath (Armida), as well as her many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Betty will be greatly missed by many. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m, Monday, October 30, 2023 at Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations that will be used towards a rose garden in her honor.
