Alexander Kamas, 83, of Parker, went to be with His Lord peacefully on Feb. 26, 2014 at his home. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4740 N. State Hwy. 83 in Franktown followed by Burial at Parker Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services. Alex was born in Lexington, Nebraska, in the family farm house, to Minnie and Christ Kamas. He was the eighth of nine children. His childhood was spent helping the family, farming sugar beets, going to school and playing outside. Helping on the farm was a given. They all worked hard from a very young age. When Alex was around 5, he would help his mother milk the cows. She would finish milking the cow he had milked. One day she told him that he was a good boy because he milked the cow dry. So the next morning when he brought the cows back in for milking, he left that cow out in the field because it was dry! He loved his mother very much and talked often of the homemade breads and meals that she and his sisters worked so hard to provide. He talked about working beets. Hot in the summer and cold in the fall. In the fall the leaves would have 'dew' on them which made for wet gloves and very cold little hands. He would go to Grand Island on some Saturdays where he was given a quarter to spend. He remembered going to the five and dime, usually spending 5 cents and having money left over for the movie theater. In his teenage years, he, his siblings and his mother moved to Denver. He finished high school there and completed one semester of college before having to stop. After school he worked at his brother's Chocolate shop on 15th street in Denver. He rode the trolley there after school and ate lots of candy. Next, he went to work for the Mine and Smelter Supply Co. making 75 cents an hour. He shopped around and landed a job at PIE and received a salary of one dollar an hour. He worked there for 15 years, where he met his wife Carol. After PIE he owned Al's Northglenn Standard in Northglenn, Colorado. Following that he moved his family to Palisade, Colorado where they purchased 20 acres of fruit trees and attempted to teach their kids how to farm. At the same time he got his real estate license and worked for United Farm Real Estate Co. It wasn't long before he built a beautiful new family home on the 20 acres. That was the first of many houses that he built. He taught himself how. Over the years he subdivided land, built houses (not just as a general but did much of the labor), including the house he currently occupied in Parker, Colorado. Al and Carol celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 26th, 2013. They raised four children, Karen, Kim, Marie and Alex while living in California, Oregon and Colorado. His children will tell you that he never missed a play, sports event or party that they were involved in. To say he 'cheered' them on in life is an understatement to be sure. Beyond that, he lived a life of integrity, honesty, and love to his neighbor. This was his greatest gift to his family. He was a shining example of choosing what is right. He loved unconditionally and without favor. He was known as Poppy to his 11 grandchildren, Joshua, Jennifer, Melanie, Tony, Sarah, James, Andrew, Carolyn, Paul, Kati and Bella. He recently celebrated the birth of his first great grand child, Elias. One of the grandchildren's favorite memory is tractor rides with Poppy, and graduating to high gear! He was happy when his home was full of children and grandchildren. He loved God with all of his heart and lived with the hope of eternity to come. Alex is survived by his wife, Carol Kamas. To our Dad: You truly were the best dad in the world. You will be missed every minute of every day. See you later. Service Information
