Gary William Thompson

Gary William Thompson (Gary Bill as his family lovingly called him) was born September 2, 1938 in Aurora, Missouri. His family later relocated to Clinton Iowa where he graduated from Clinton High School in 1956. He went on to graduate from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1960. He was passionate about Cornell and participated on the alumni board for several years. After college, he served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1967. He was stationed in France and developed a lifelong love of cooking during his time there. He married his love Suzanne Irene Huber on July 26, 1969 in Clinton, Iowa. They moved to Colorado in 1970 where he resided until his death. Gary worked as a healthcare management consultant and opened his own firm in 1976 which he led until his retirement in 2001. He was an active member and office holder in The Society of Professional Business Consultants. He was also an active member of his Church and The National Episcopal Church and served as a trustee for the Colorado Episcopal Foundation. Gary enjoyed traveling, biking and skiing. He was part of the Over the Hill Ski Gang at Copper Mountain for many years and enjoyed volunteering to show skiers around the mountain. He also participated in The Fat Tire Classic for many years and was recognized for his contribution and fundraising. When he was not traveling, biking or skiing he was cooking delicious meals, telling jokes and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Suzanne Thompson, daughter Anne Marie Thompson and Tony Thomas, daughter Lisa Smith, son in law Richard Smith, and 3 granddaughters, Tamara, Raelyn and Tenley. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16th, 2023, at St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church, 13151 W 28th Ave, Golden, CO 80401. A reception with snacks will be served following the service. Please come, celebrate, and share your stories and memories.
