Duane Ackerman

Duane Lee Ackerman 72 passed away at his home in Thornton Colorado on July 12th of 2019 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife Garnet Lee Ackerman his wife of 53 years and three children, Donna Ackerman, Brenda Riblett and husband Eric, Troy Ackerman and wife Kendra, 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded by his son Scott Ackerman, his parents Deane and Mavis Ackerman. Duane was born in Torrington, Wyoming in 1946 to Mavis and Deane Ackerman. After moving to Casper, Wyoming, Duane attended grade school, Jr. High school and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1965. He attended Casper College in 1965-67 and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Duane was a devoted father, a Christian and involved in many church activities, including singing in gospel quartets while in high school, church choir and was also the Director of Family Life Miniseries in Colorado in 1985-1990. Duane taught the Jr. High Sunday School class and was the church Treasurer at the Riverview Baptist Church in Casper Wyoming and a deacon at the Calvary Community Church in Thornton, Colorado. While in Jr. High School Duane was one of the editors of the “Spilled Ink” school newspaper for two years and also sang in a boy’s chorus of 10 called “The Letterman”. Duane worked with his father and brothers in the fencing business in 1968 – 1985, when they owned the Western Fence Company in Casper Wyoming. They moved to Denver and opened a fence company in 1967. In 1985 Duane started selling insurance and for years worked for several different insurance companies. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
