Dorothy Mae Allen
November 24th, 1926 - January 30th, 2016
Dorothy Mae Allen, 89, of Greeley, CO, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Life Care Center in Greeley. She was born November 24, 1926 in Greeley, CO to Clinton and Pearl Herrick of rural Weld County near Briggsdale. Dorothy grew up attending Briggsdale schools where she graduated in June 1944. During high school Dorothy loved playing basketball and excelled due to her above average height. Dorothy married William Lyman Allen on November 10, 1946. They had two children, Steve and Linda, and were blessed enough to celebrate their 64th anniversary in 2010. Bill and Dorothy moved to the Greeley area soon after they were married and Dorothy took a job at the Weld County Assessors office where she worked for 31 years retiring as Deputy County Assessor. Dorothy was very active with her friends from the "Gaming Ladies” club and loved playing bingo, bowling and bridge. Dorothy was also blessed with wonderful grand and later great-grandchildren who she cherished and loved spending time with. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Linda Kay (Larry) Buendorf of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Steven Clinton Allen of Greeley; four granddaughters, Stephanie (Keith) Pryor of Fort Collins, CO, Emily (Nick) Morris of Greeley, Claire Allen of Seattle, WA, and Alicia Allen of Greeley; grandson, Joseph Allen of Greeley; three great-grandchildren, Kaillyn Mae and William Kelsey Pryor of Fort Collins, and Maiselle Allen Morris of Greeley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Irma and Maxine; two brothers, Raymond and Mervin; and great grandson, Benjamin Noah Pryor. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Adamson Reception Center, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to "Evan’s Senior Center” or "Hospice of Northern Colorado” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
