Takeshi "Tak” Murata, 90, of Greeley, CO passed away at Hospice of Northern Colorado surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. He was born on March 18, 1925 in Greeley to Keizi and Haru (Sheraishi) Murata. Tak farmed in Weld County for over 60 years and later enjoyed helping his sons on the farm well into his 80’s. Tak enjoyed many outdoor activities and sports. He placed second in wrestling as a junior in high school. He played baseball as a young adult with a local Japanese American team and played teams from Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. He was an avid bowler and participated in many leagues. He loved the mountains and grew up hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. He took up golf in his early 70’s and continued to play into his late 80’s. He and his wife of 65 years, Chikako, enjoyed traveling and took many trips. Tak was a WWII veteran and served in Japan after the war as an interpreter. He met his wife Chikako while serving in Fukuoka and they were married there before returning to Kuner to start their lives farming. Tak is survived by his children, Miya Murata of Denver, CO, Wes Murata of Denver, Diane (Michael Muskin) Murata of Loveland, CO, Gene Murata of Greeley, and Brian Murata of Greeley; his grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Chikako; and brother, Jack. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Adamson Chapel, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634. Memorial contributions may be made in Tak’s name to "Honor Flight Northern Colorado” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
