Lester Carl Hartman, 88, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009. He was born October 14th, 1920 in Cook, Nebraska and was a 55 year resident of Greeley. During his youth, he attended school and worked on his father’s farm in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Lester attended mechanic school in Kansas City, MO and served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942 to 1943. He then joined the US Civil Service and worked in a transportation shop in Hawaii. In 1947, Lester returned to Pawnee City and with a friend, started an auto repair business. There, in 1948 he married Berniece Davis. Lester and Berniece lived on the Hartman farm in Pawnee City, where they raised sheep and farmed. In 1953, they moved to Greeley and Lester worked at the sugar factory weigh station. He then worked at the Greeley Gas Company and retired in 1982 as a construction foreman. Lester was a member of the United Methodist Church of Greeley, the Century Lodge #190 AF&AM since 1980 and a member of the Korein Shrine AAONMS. He was preceded in death by his wife Berniece, on July 13, 2005. Lester is survived by his son, Ronald Steven, his daughter in law, Judi, his granddaughter Amity, grandson Seth, all from California, and his sister Corrine from Fort Collins. The funeral services will be at Adamson Mortuary, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, on Monday, January 26, at 1 PM, preceded by viewing from 11AM to 1PM, and followed by interment at Linn Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are requested.
