Glenn Emerson Brickley
March 30th, 1935 - August 22nd, 2016
Glenn Emerson Brickley, 81, of Greeley, went to his heavenly home on Monday, August 22, 2016. He was born March 30, 1935 in Colorado Springs to Cecil and Rita (Benton) Brickley where he grew up and graduated from Colorado Springs High School. While attending C.S.U. in Fort Collins, he worked at KCOL radio, sold cookware, was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Speech Arts. Glenn married Carol Boerefyn DeKock on August 8, 1982 at the Greeley Unitarian Church. In his thirties, Glenn lived in El Paso, TX with his young family where he taught high school English, winning Teacher of the Year, before returning to Colorado Springs. He ventured into real estate and became a Certified Property Manager. During the 1970s, Glenn owned Carpet Country in Greeley further honing his skills in sales. Glenn’s joyful heart and compassion radiated through hobbies including singing, acting, traveling, golfing, cooking, writing his autobiography, beekeeping, plus cheering on the Rockies and Broncos. He was a member of Sunrise Seratoma in Colorado Springs, First Congregational Church of Greeley, Civitan, Keen-Age Singers and The Greeley Chorale. He and Carol co-founded and co-chaired The Chorale’s annual Pops and Pasta for many years. Glenn loved animals, spending time with his family and entertaining students in his wife’s classroom. Glenn was involved in numerous organizations including serving as president of Southern Colorado Chapter of Institute of Real Estate Management. He received awards from Civitan International for Outstanding and Dedicated Service, Greeley Civitan Club for Special Olympics, and Distinguished Instructor of Real Estate Education from the University of Colorado. Survivors include his loving wife Carol of Greeley; the mother of his children Johanna (Hillock) Holland of Littleton; children, Mike (Sandra Hughes) of Longmont, Kathy (Steve McKiernan) of Schenectady, NY and Brian (Kim) of Trinidad; grandchildren: Hunter, Stockton, Caitlyn, Logan, Colin, Alex, Casey, Austin, Mac, Joshua and Caleb; great-grandson Alek; nieces and nephews, plus Greeley ‘granddaughters’ Kory and Amaya. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, sister Charlene and brother Richard. Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the First Congregational Church, 2101 16th Street, Greeley. A potluck reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the "The Greeley Chorale” or "The Wild Animal Sanctuary” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Service, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
