Beatrice "Bea” Mondragon, 78, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Tru Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley surrounded by her loving family. She was born, the second of eight children, to David and Ann (Andrade) Penaflor on March 26, 1939 in Gilcrest, CO. Bea grew up in Gilcrest as a part of a large extended family. She was educated in the Gilcrest schools remaining in the Gilcrest and Greeley area for her entire life. Bea worked for the University of Northern Colorado until she retired to spend time on her hobbies. Family was the focus of Bea’s life. She found much joy in family gatherings, spending much time cooking and entertaining large crowds, especially around the holidays and summer barbeques. She was an exceptionally good cook. Additionally, Bea was an avid sports fan. She spent many summer days watching her family in their many sporting activities. Baseball played a central role in her life, from little league to the Greeley Grays, to the University of Northern Colorado, and the Rockies. The Broncos and Nuggets and many high school events drew her in as well. When not occupied with sports, Bea spent time gardening, home decorating, and shopping with her daughters. Above all else, Bea loved caring for her kids and her dog, Miles. Beatrice is survived by her children, Gene (Marsha) Mondragon of Centennial, CO, Brian (Kelly) Mondragon of Pueblo, CO, Kenneth "Dino” Mondragon of Denver, Lisa (Santos Casarez) Mondragon of Fort Collins, CO, and Theresa (Daniel) Ramirez of Greeley; grandchildren, Branden Mondragon, Kyle Mondragon, Kamryn Mondragon, and Andre Bennett; brothers, Nash Penaflor, David Penaflor, Phillip Penaflor, and Joe Penaflor; and sister, Jenn Tellez. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Julian Padilla Galvez; brothers, David Penaflor and Filbert Penaflor; and sister, Maxine Penaflor. Recitation of the Rosary will be a 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
