Jean Louise O'Brien
March 15th, 1924 - May 14th, 2009
Jean L. O’Brien, 85, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Devonshire Acres in Sterling. She was born to Harold G. and Inez (Clark) Rorabaugh on March 15, 1924 near Otis, Colorado. She graduated from Lone Star High School and then went on to study Home Economics and Education at Colorado State College of Agriculture in Fort Collins, now Colorado State University. She graduated in 1946 and then went to work in Greeley as a Weld County Home Extension Agent. Later she taught school at Joes in Yuma County, in Weld County at Kersey and then finished her teaching career at Highland Middle School in Pierce. She married her husband Bill on September 7, 1947 in Otis, Colorado. In their first 15 years of marriage they lived in Greeley, Joes, Yuma and Kersey. They moved to Eaton in 1962 where they continued to make their home until Bill’s death in 2006. In the summer of 2006 Jean moved to the Bonell Good Samaritan Center in Greeley and has most recently lived at Devonshire Acres in Sterling. Jean was a very active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley, the State Episcopal Church Women’s Board, the Eaton Sundowners Extension Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution Centennial Chapter, and Colonial Dames Mountain-Prairie Chapter. She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Dahmer and her husband Mike of Henderson, Nevada; three sons, John O’Brien and wife Joyce of Waianae, Hawaii, Pat O’Brien and wife Robin of Sterling and Mike O’Brien and wife Barbara of Loveland; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a sister, Joyce Stear of Cambridge, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her parents; two brothers; three sons, Dan, Dave and Tom O’Brien; and one great-grandson, Patrick. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 West 20th Street, Greeley. Inurnment at Linn Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church for its Outreach Programs serving the community in care of Adamson Funeral and Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
