Jerome Henry "Jerry” Loeffler, 89 of LaSalle, CO entered into eternal peace, Wednesday, October 29, 2009 at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado inpatient unit. Jerry was born November 28, 1919 in Lindsey, NE to Anton W. and Lena (Geilenkirchen) Loeffler. Born during the Depression and the oldest of eight children he had a strong work ethic. At the age of 72, he said, "I might slow down a little now”. He was drafted during WWII and was stationed in Okinawa and Hawaii and also served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. On April 28, 1947 he married Lydia (Schafer) Winter at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greeley. They moved to a farm west of LaSalle in 1949 where he continued to farm and harvest sixty-one crops. He was a proud farmer Jerry was a charter member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, on the board of the Godfrey Ditch Company, member of the Moose Lodge, Evans VFW, former member of the Greeley Elks Lodge, and an honorary member of the LaSalle Eagles. In 2002 he received his high school diploma through the Operation Recognition Program honoring veterans who were unable to complete their high school education during World War II. A man of strong faith and determination; Jerome enjoyed helping his neighbors and friends, always smiling with an optimistic and humorous view and loved sharing stories. Survivors: Lydia, his wife of 62 years; daughters, Vicki (John) Knespel of Greeley, Verla Lynn Braunagel of Longmont, CO; son, Jerry Loeffler of LaSalle; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jo (Ed) Bruntz, Wilma (Wilbert) Aab both of Greeley, Virginia (Pete) Henspeter of Mesa, AZ; brother, Elmer (Bernice) Loeffler of LaSalle; sisters-in- law Esther Wiedeman and Venice Schafer both of Gilcrest, CO, Maria Joslyn of Greeley; and brother-in-law Paul Schafer of Greeley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Roland; sisters, Mildred Adams and Janet Davis. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Adamson Chapel 2000 47th Avenue Greeley, CO from 6 to 8 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Wednesday November 4, 2009 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 915 12th Street Greeley, CO at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School or Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Ave. Greeley, CO 80634.
