Memorial

Valerie was born November 19, 1973 in Peoria, IL to John and Debra Dunn and passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 in Greeley, Colorado. Valerie graduated from Peoria High School in 1992. She moved to Chicago and attended Moody Bible Institute. She moved to Mt. Prospect, IL and worked for the Baptist General Conference and worked as a financial coordinator for overseas missionaries. On October 4, 1997, she married Benjamin Yarbro in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In 1998, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to join Mountainview Bible Church. Valerie worked at Genesis Digital Inc, a company she and Ben started later in 1998. After moving to Windsor, Colorado in 1999, Valerie with her husband and 80 other people, helped start Windsor Community Church in 1999. Later, she started Sassy Blue, a company selling home décor. In 2006, Valerie and Ben joined leadership team to plant Crossway Chapel of Greeley in Greeley, Colorado, where she served and worshiped until her passing. Valerie had a passion for missions. She went on three short term mission trips, once to Ireland, and twice to Czech Republic. She loved writing, knitting, puzzles, movies, books, coloring her hair, and being with her husband. She also loved drama ministry and puppets. She found ways to be creative, spunky, and fun in almost all situations. Her wisdom and insight was invaluable to many. Valerie began a B.A. in Linguistics at CU Boulder in 2007, but was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2008. Valerie is survived by her husband Benjamin, mother Debra, sister Melanie, long time friends Willie & Lisa O’Burke, step-father David, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, AND Bilbo the dog. She is preceded in death by her father John, and maternal & paternal grandparents. Valerie said, "It should not be said about me that I have lost the battle to cancer. It is not about a war with cancer cells. My life has been a journey. This has been a difficult part of the journey. God has walked me home to the end of the journey. That is not a loss. That’s an extreme victory.” Services will be held on Tuesday, December 22 at Hope Center at 4754 West 31st Street, Greeley at 4:30 PM. Meal & fellowship to follow. Bring a dish to share if you wish.
