Virgil Dean Podtburg
October 13th, 1928 - January 17th, 2010
Virgil Dean Podtburg, 81, of Johnstown, CO died peacefully Sunday, January 17, 2010 at North Colorado Medical Center surrounded by his family Virgil was born October 13, 1928 in Adams, NE to Fred Carl and Waunita Grace (Heyen) Podtburg. He grew up in Adams and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1946. He moved to Greeley with his family in 1947 and farmed with his parents until 1951 when he was drafted in to the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Virgil married Marilyn Armagost in 1951. They later divorced. For 13 years he worked as a dairy farmer for Ed Wiedeman in south west Greeley. In 1968 with the help of Mr. Wiedeman, he started his own dairy near Johnstown. In 1979 he purchased the farm where he resided for 31 years. In his later years his greatest joy was having his grandchildren and great grandchildren visit him at his farm home. Virgil was a member of numerous dairy organizations and a life member of the Johnstown VFW Post 2585. Virgil is survived by his daughter, Kathy Rohn and husband John of Eaton, CO; son, Rick Podtburg and wife Carol of Greeley, step-son, Jack Jarboe of Johnstown; grandchildren, Eric Podtburg and wife Sandy, Greg Podtburg, and Marcus Podtburg, all of Johnstown, Wade Podtburg and wife Renee of Pierce, CO, Brandon Rohn and wife Joy, and Stacey Kuskie and husband Chad all of Eaton; great-granddaughters, Brooke Podtburg and Taylour Podtburg, both of Johnstown, Nakaiya Kuskie , Jayden Kuskie, Alexis Kuskie, and Makenna Rohn, all of Eaton, Kaya Podtburg of Pierce; great-grandsons, Christopher Podtburg and Cayden Podtburg both of Johnstown; sisters, Carol Brown of Johnstown, Ruth Horst and husband Myron of Greeley; and a brother, Richard Podtburg and wife Phyllis of Greeley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Bernadine Podtburg. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 at St. Paul’s Congregational Church, 1525 43rd Avenue, Greeley followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made for Pulmonary Rehab to "NCMC Foundation” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, Colorado 80634.
