James Victor Bunker

James Victor Bunker, age 49, died January 20, 2010 in Greeley. Jim was born December 9, 1960 to Edward J. Bunker (deceased) and Betty J. Bunker of Greeley, and survived by sister, Cynthia Conn, Highlands Ranch, brother, Gregory Bunker, Centennial, and daughter Lindsay Bunker, Los Angeles. A Greeley Central graduate (1979), Jim was awarded Bachelors (1986) and Masters of Science (2002) degrees in Geology from California State University, Sacramento and Los Angeles, respectively. While attending California State University, Los Angeles, Jim was awarded a Martin Stout Scholarship for excellence in geoscience study and wrote a Master’s Thesis entitled "Model for the San Francisquito Fault as a Normal Fault Related to Uplift of the Sierra Pelona Anticline, Central Traverse Ranges, Southern California.” Jim was a licensed California Professional Geologist based in Los Angeles and specializing in nationwide environmental geology issues including EPA Superfund Clean-Up site matters. Additionally, Jim presented a paper on environmental geology issues at an international geologic conference held in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 2003. Due to Jim’s keen interest in education and geology, efforts are underway to create the James Bunker Memorial Scholarship to be awarded to a deserving graduate student in the Geology Department at California State University, Los Angeles.
