Lorraine Margaret Sommers was born to Clyde A. and Effie Mae (Crawford) Runkle in Everly, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Moneta, Iowa and graduated from Moneta High School in 1937. She attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa graduating in 1940. On May 3, 1941 she married James Sommers in Odebolt, Iowa. Mrs. Sommers worked in Spencer, Iowa as a nurse. She moved to Greeley in 1964 where she continued practicing nursing until retiring in 1983. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved raising her six daughters. She also loved her flower gardens, cryptograms and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered as a person with a great sense of humor, who loved to laugh and was a lot of fun. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Mrs. Sommers died Tuesday September 4, 2007 at North Colorado Medical Center Hospice and Palliative Care. Survivors: Her daughters, Judy Baker and Peggy Sommers of Greeley, Ellen Bocken and husband Bob of Fort Dodge, IA, Mary Strickland of Fort Collins, Sue Small and husband George of Canon City, Nancy Smith and husband Jim of Morrison; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Russ Runkle of Hartley, IA, Curt Runkle and wife Betty of Spencer, IA and a sister Nyla Christians and husband Jim of Arkansas. Preceded in death by: Her husband on December 30, 2000; her parents, and her brother Fritz Runkle. Visitation: 2:00 p.m. �" 4:00 p.m. Sunday September 9, 2007 with Recitation of the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. at Adamson West Chapel. Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday September 10, 2007 at St. Peter Catholic Church.
