Bernice Louise Marcum, 101, of Windsor, Colorado died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Fairacres manor in Greeley. She was born on August 6, 1908 in Council Bluffs, IA to William and Nancy (Harbaugh) Butenhoff. Bernice grew up on a farm in Red Oak, IA and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1925. On August 6, 1930 she married Donald Marcum in Council Bluffs. They lived in Iowa and Nebraska before moving to Denver, CO in 1942; and later to Johnstown, CO, then Windsor, CO. In 1976 Bernice and Donald managed cabins in Drake, Co and were caught in the Big Thompson Flood and rescued by helicopter. Bernice had a great memory and never missed sending a birthday card to family. She was also a very positive person who always saw the glass "half full.” She enjoyed gardening, journaling, cooking and photography. Bernice was a strong woman and a twenty year cancer survivor. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Greeley chapter of the D.A.R. and of the United Methodist Church in Windsor. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Bolander and husband Edward of Cheyenne, WY, and Jane Lincoln and husband Truman of Denver; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her "Extended Family” and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of sixty-seven years; and a sister. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Adamson Chapel. Interment at Johnstown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to "First United Methodist Church of Windsor” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue Greeley, CO 80634.
