Ruth Amanda Swanson

Ruth and her family moved from Minnesota to Elwell, Colo. in 1931 and later to Greeley where she graduated from Greeley High School in 1932. Ruth worked various jobs before marrying "Swede” Swanson. They had 5 children and she was a stay at home mom until they all graduated from high school. Later she worked in retail sales, seasonal employment for Monfort Feed Lots and was a salesperson for a local dress shop. She was very active in community service. She was an election judge for many years. She was very involved in school activities as her children were growing up and served as the PTA President. She was always willing to help others any way she could. Ruth "Meema” was the matriarch of a large family with five children, 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Her quiver was full. She will be missed immeasurable by this family and all of Greeley, having lived in Weld County for 88 years. All who knew her loved her dearly. Ruth is survived by her sons, Gene (Sylvia) of Greeley, Brad (Joanne) of Phoenix, and Cornell (Shirley) of Seattle; daughters, Linn of Greeley, and Pam (Glenn) Holmgren of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Swede" Swanson; parents, Oscar and Anna Johnson; son, Brad; and brothers and sisters. Life Celebration Services for Ruth will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley with a luncheon to follow in the Adamson Reception Center.
