Miriam Hibbs

Miriam Hibbs went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2019. She was born November 3, 1924 to William and Verna (Shockey) Werner in Mason City, Ill. Miriam attended Mason County schools and graduated from Mason City Community High School in 1942. She attended Illinois Commercial College at Champaign, Ill for one year. Miriam work at the University of Illinois until her marriage to Wayne D. Hibbs on March 2, 1946. She came with Wayne to Keenesburg, CO where they farmed until 1956 when they moved to Platteville, CO and purchased a farm. In 1965 she started work with State Farm Insurance, retiring in 1976. After retirement she helped Wayne on the farm until his death in 1983. Miriam took over the farm for five years after Wayne passed away and then moved into the town of Platteville. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Platteville where she volunteered much of her time. She helped make pretty quilts and noodles for the church bazar. Miriam loved gardening and at one time had 100 rose bushes. She enjoyed crafts and cross stitched some beautiful pictures. Miriam is survived by her daughter, Janet McKinney; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Verna Werner; husband, Wayne; daughters, Rowena McKinney and Cathy McLaughlin; brothers, Ray Werner, Glenn Werner, and Loren Werner; and sister, Ruth Johnson.
