Robert Charles Burroughs, 83, of Greeley, passed away on December 2, 2019 in Greeley, Colorado. He was born to John and Hazel (Lee) Burroughs on November 27, 1936 in Greeley, Colorado. Robert attended Ault High School, where he participated in band, track and football and was the football captain his senior year. Robert was an outdoorsman in his youth and anticipated a career as a Forest Ranger. He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating with a BS in Forestry. During this time however, his interest turned to law. He furthered his education by receiving a law degree in 1961. After completing law school Robert married the love of his life, Patricia, on March 24, 1961 (her birthday!). The family had purchased a farm east of Ault and he and Patricia took their residence there. The farm gave Robert much joy over the years, fulfilling his passion for the outdoors. Robert opened his law practice in Ault and worked the dryland farm and the family Texaco business until his law practice became full time. Robert’s greatest interests were caring for his family, helping others, and practicing law. His return to Ault after law school allowed him to fulfill these interests. He was "the only lawyer in town” for most of his 50 year career. Robert practiced all areas of law and distinguished himself as a sharp, caring and honorable attorney. He fulfilled his belief in community through his participation in community clubs including the Ault Service Club. Robert took great pride in being a resident of Ault and was always eager to participate in the club’s community activities. Robert enjoyed time with his family, attending Colorado University football games, attending Ault Bearcat reunions, and attending CU law school reunions. He enjoyed hosting friends and family at their country home during holidays and special occasions. The annual New Years party and Father’s Day picnic were notable traditions. Throughout his life, Robert demonstrated a life of self-sacrifice. He admirably fulfilled the role of son, brother, husband, father and friend. In his later years, he bravely faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. Although his presence will be missed, Robert was a blessing to this world and we are grateful for having known him. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 58 years; children, Tony (Vi) Burroughs, Cathy Burroughs; granddaughter, Ciana Burroughs; and sister Mary Louise Burroughs. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Lee Burroughs. To leave condolences for Robert’s family, www.adamsoncares.com Life Celebration Memorial will be held at 1 pm, Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue in Greeley.
