Terrence “Terry” Brunold was born July 9, 1947 in Portland, Oregon and passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015 at Kaiser Hospital with his beloved wife-Michelle, son-Jeffrey, and sister-Judy Reid by his side. Terry was an avid fisherman who loved the ocean, his boat-the Blue Angel, and all his fishing buddies. He excelled in anything he tried, whether it was becoming an Eagle Scout, growing superb tomatoes, commercial fishing (hello Bruce and Terry) or going back to Portland State as an adult to complete his BS degree. He started at Portland State when it was a college, where he met Michelle in the “listening room” and finished after it became a University. Terry and Michelle were lucky enough to have walked together in life for 48 years and to have produced two wonderful sons, Christopher and Jeffrey. Now they have two fantastic grandsons, Eliott and Hudson, who were the joy of Terry’s heart. During the course of their lives together, Terry and Michelle were fortunate to have traveled to the Hawaiian Islands, many countries in Europe, the Caribbean and the Cook Islands. Terry’s favorite places were Cook Islands (traveling with Joanne and Glen Mills), Nootka Sound (fishing with brother Gary and brother-in-law, Alton), and Mulege, Baja, Mexico (fishing with Glen and Hank). Of course, fishing anywhere was okay with Terry (fishing with Mike Portus on the Columbia or Tillamook Head). Terry worked in the trucking industry doing everything from driving the big rigs to eventually running the depot for Oak Harbor in Salem, which is where he was working when he retired. He then went to work at RE Max Sunnyside as a Realtor. He loved being a Realtor and enjoyed all the people he worked with. As his daughter-in-law, Jodi, said, Terry was a very kind and gentle man who touched many lives. All Terry’s family agreed that because of his wonderful personality, he made many lifelong friends wherever he went and was truly loved by all. If a person’s wealth is measured by the number of friends they have, Terry left us a very wealthy man. Terry fought his debilitating illness since January 7, 2009 with patience, grace and a wicked sense of humor. Over the course of his illness, he met many medical providers and all of them commented on his tenacity. One nurse commented that she thought Terry wouldn’t complain if they cut off his arm. He just took each challenge with a heartfelt attempt at getting well. He loved his family so much he gave more than was humanly possible and put up with more pain than anyone realized. Terry is survived by his loving family, wife-Michelle, sons-Christopher (wife Jodi) and Jeffrey, brother Gary (wife Debra), sister Judy (husband Alton), grandsons Eliott and Hudson, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, sister wife-Patrice (just a joke to you who don’t know the story), and as many friends as the stars you see in the sky. We will all miss Terry’s sparkling blue eyes and beautiful smile, his laughter, warmth and wisdom, and the special way he cared. Rest in peace my sweet prince and we will all be together someday.
