Harvey Steward
August 27th, 1934 - February 13th, 2021
Harvey Donald Steward passed away on February 13, 2021, at the age of 86, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Harvey was born to Leslie and Mabel (Bilyeu) Steward on August 27, 1934. He was the eighth of nine children and grew up on the family farm in Barnesville, Colorado. In 1952, Harvey graduated from Greeley High School, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1954 during the Korean/Vietnam conflicts, where he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard as a fire control technician, and was honorably discharged in January 1958. On June 30, 1954, Harvey married his high school sweetheart, Louann J. Burns. After his discharge, he attended Colorado State College and for a time was employed by Adamson Mortuary. Harvey began his career as an electronics technician for Stanley Commercial Radio, where he earned his 1st Class FCC License, then moved to Cooper Communications. In 1974, he purchased Cooper Communications and provided electronic communication systems for city and county emergency services and other businesses located throughout Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. In 1985, Harvey and Louann moved to Westminster where he worked as an electronics technician for Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, where he maintained communications systems and storm monitoring equipment for Boulder Creek, emergency services, and dispatch centers. Harvey retired in 2002; in 2005 he and Louann returned to Greeley to be closer to family. In 2018, they moved to Meadowview of Greeley where he resided until the time of his death. Harvey was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking in the mountains of Colorado and the Sierra Mountains of California with his brother-in-law Grant Dunlop. Harvey loved his Penguin sail boat and sailed many of the lakes in Northern Colorado. He also enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandchildren all along the Front Range, and served as a den leader for the Cub Scouts and Webelos. Harvey and his daughter owned and trained a horse together, and his hobbies included glass etching and growing roses in his yard. In 2013, Harvey had the honor of participating in the Northern Colorado Honor Flight to Washington, DC. Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Louann, daughter Kim (Mike) Tregoning and son Mark (Mary) Steward and nephew David (Sally) Shepherd; his grandchildren Sarah Garber (Matt Welch), Jessica (Joe) Marshall and Matthew (Kathryn) Steward; his great grandchildren Kaitlee, Camryn and Jake Marshall, and Lorelei Steward, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Vera Wilkinson, Eunice Scott, Flora Baber, LaVerna Dunlop, and Mary Stutzman, and brothers Charlie, Robert, and Howard Steward. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 W. 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
