Mary Sue Benson

Mrs. Benson was born in Candler, North Carolina to Spurgeon L. and Mary E. (Jones) McElrath. Mrs. Benson and her family lived in North Carolina until she was six years old and then her family moved to the Gilcrest and LaSalle area to farm in 1928. She graduated from Gilcrest High School in 1940. In the early 1940’s Mrs. Benson moved to Everett, Washington to work with Boeing Aircraft as a Rivitor. After the war was over she moved back to Gilcrest and worked at the potato docks in Gilcrest. On November 1, 1951 Mary married Noble Benson of Nampa, Idaho in Greeley. In 1955 Mr. and Mrs. Benson moved to Ogden, Utah for Mr. Benson’s construction work. They lived there for two years and then moved back to Gilcrest. After getting married Mrs. Benson became a home maker taking care of the household chores and the child they later had. Mrs. Benson enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, knitting, and shopping. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Benson died Saturday November 17, 2007 at her residence. Survivors: husband, Noble Benson of Greeley; son, Rick Benson of Greeley; brother, Herbert McElrath of Widefield, CO; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: parents; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Edith and husband John Benson and Lucy and husband Carl Atkerson. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday November 23, 2007 at Adamson West Chapel.
