Leo D. Malcom was born in Clarinda, Iowa to David Walker and Alta Mae "Peggy” (Glasgow) Malcom. In 1935 Leo moved to Colorado with his parents, settling in Greeley in 1936 where he attended school, graduating for Greeley High School. Mr. Malcom entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. While in the Army he was involved in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded helping another wounded soldier and receive the Purple Heart. Mr. Malcom also served with the Headquarters Military Police Unit at the war crime trials in Germany. After his discharge from the U.S. Army, Mr. Malcom returned to Colorado and worked for United Airlines for a short time before becoming a police officer for the City of Aurora, Colorado. In 1950 Mr. Malcom moved with his family to Sunnyside, Washington where he was a police officer. In 1954 Mr. Malcom was hired as a police officer in Greeley where he returned with his family. While working as a police officer in Greeley he worked as a Patrol officer, a detective and was promoted to lieutenant in 1964. Mr. Malcom was promoted to Commander in 1971 and retired from the Greeley Police Department in 1973. After his retirement, Mr. Malcom worked a short time for Northern Armored Service, Greeley Finance Company and Monfort of Colorado. While living in Aurora, Mr. Malcom married Betty Ann Newhouse and had four children. They divorced in 1975. In 1978 Mr. Malcom married Ellen Johnson in Greeley. Mr. Malcom died Friday August 17, 2007 at Hospice and Palliative Care at North Colorado Medical Center. Survivors: Sons, David Malcom and wife Pam of Sunnyside, WA, Doug Malcom and wife Karena of Greeley; daughter, Debbie Cannon and husband Mike of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by: His wife, parents, and son, Duane Roger Malcom. Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m. Thursday August 23, 2007 Adamson West Chapel in Greeley.
