Philip Joseph Mathon
April 1st, 1932 - March 29th, 2021
Philip Joseph Mathon, 88, was surrounded with love and prayer when he went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2021. His wife and son were at his side at their home in Greeley. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 1, 1932 he was orphaned along with his half-brother Harold Mathon and half-sister, Estelle M. Bernier who preceded him in death. Home and family were always near to Philip’s heart. The camaraderie of the military drew him to join the Navy. He was also a member of the National Order of Trench Rats and civil patrol. While still in uniform he met and married the love of his life, Jacquelyn Patricia Pendergast Mathon (Jackie) on February 7, 1953. After marrying they moved west to California with Leona and Albert Pendergast, maternal parents and set up their homestead in Burbank, California where they resided for twenty-one years. Cool, California and Santaquin, Utah were also called home prior to moving with their son, Philip Joseph Mathon II (P.J.), to Greeley, CO. Philip and Jackie were married for 69 years and shared a life filled with the courage that comes from strong hearts and the integrity of a moral compass always aimed true north. They raised three children, Dr. Patrice Valida Mathon, of Minnesota, Paula Dawn Mathon Wells, who passed in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 5, 1996, and P.J. Mathon, II of Greeley. Philip was an avid learner and was one of the first TV technicians trained by RCA. He began his own company Phil’s TV and Radio in Glendale, Calif. His learning did not stop there as he added security systems for many of the movie stars in the local area. After selling his business in Glendale the family moved and he began a second career working for Pinkerton’s and the TSA in Utah. He also worked with his son in their jointly owned construction company KPM until his passing. Philip was a passionate creative. He wrote beautiful poetry, played the harmonica and was an avid photographer. He could build just about anything with his bare hands. He had a boundless spirit for adventure that led him and his family into remote areas of the western U.S. for exciting explorations of unknown territory for camping and sight seeing. He had a sincere desire to share the profound beauty of the natural world he loved with his family leaving his children’s hearts full of amazing memories. He always had love in his heart, a smile on his face and a kind word for those he met along the journey of life. His motto: "Love is…total acceptance of others” rang true throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all. No words can adequately express the sum total of his beautiful and loving soul. Philip is survived by his wife, Jackie; daughter, Patrice and his son, P.J. and wife Kimberly; granddaughter, McKenna; grandson, Andrew Edward Mathon (son of Paula Dawn) and wife, Sherrie; great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Adelyn; granddaughter, Christina Wells Namaki (daughter of Paula Dawn), husband Aaron; great-grandchildren, Catryna Wells, Katherine, Payton & Caleb Namaki. Graveside services will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 11:30am with full military honors. Friends may leave condolences at AdamsonCares.com.
