Raymond F. Hergert, 85, of Greeley, CO died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Grace Pointe Continuing Care Center in Greeley. Ray was born February 3, 1925 in Russell, KS to Frederick and Marie (Wassemiller) Hergert. As a young boy, Ray moved with his family to Colorado where they farmed in the Greeley area. He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church where he met the love of his life Freida Geisick. They were married on Ray’s 21st birthday, February 3, 1946 and farmed south of LaSalle until retiring and moving to Greeley in 2002. Ray was a member of the Milliken Early Potato Growers Association and received the High Ten Beet Grower award for several years. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and a lifelong member of Saint John’s United Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for many years. When Ray and Freida retired they traveled extensively with family and friends. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Freida Hergert of Greeley; daughters, Joyce (Gary) Sandau of LaSalle, CO, Carol (Cris) DiDonato of Mustang, OK; son, Richard (Diane) Hergert of Platteville, CO; grandchildren, Kirk (Tracy) Sandau of Eaton, CO, Adam DiDonato and Brian DiDonato of Mustang, OK, Travis (Amy) Hergert of Firestone, CO, Tawnya (John) Bangert of Fruita, CO, Josh Hergert of Johnstown, CO; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Arlene) Hergert of LaSalle; sisters, Elsie Stricker of Greeley, Freida (Jim) Deines of Kennewick, WA, and Helen Smith of Greeley. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alvina Geisick; and grandson, Craig Sandau. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010 at Saint John’s United Church of Christ, 3815 West 20th Street, Greeley followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to "Saint John’s United Church of Christ” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
