Joyce Ann (Arkfeld) Boyce, age 74, passed away at home on Saturday, July 3 after a long battle with dementia. Joyce was born September 7, 1946 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John & Phyllis Arkfeld and was the eldest of six children. Joyce was a Girl Scout, graduated from Pius X High School, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She married Dennis Doyle Boyce on December 21, 1968 in Lincoln, Nebraska and they had four daughters, Kristen, Sandra, Holly, and Michelle. They moved from Iowa to Colorado in 1983 where she lived the rest of her life. Joyce had an entrepreneurial spirit and held several jobs over the years, including crossing guard, craft store owner, phone operator, and cake decorator to name a few. She was an involved member in the community, volunteering at schools, Poudre Valley Hospital, Windsor Community Playhouse and with Our Lady of the Valley church for many years. Joyce took utter delight in her daughters and 10 grandchildren. She proudly wore grandma t-shirts, showed off photos, went to all their school & sporting events (cheering the loudest), and loved nothing more than having her whole family gathered for a holiday or birthday. She was an amazing baker and would make cakes for special occasions and everyone adored her cookies and candies at Christmas. She loved her sweets, often keeping stashes in her car and would sneak treats to the grandkids. She had a themed purse for each month and would go all out on decorations for any holiday (she loved Christmas and Halloween the most). She had the biggest heart and was so kind and empathetic. She’d often take dinners to people who worked at gas stations on holidays or would sit with people in the hospital who had no one else. Joyce was an accomplished sewer and was happiest when she was making her crafts or baby blankets (especially if she could give them to people in need). She was a people person and often had booths at craft fairs where she could chat and meet new people. She loved to travel, especially to the ocean and anywhere with mountains, collecting spoons from wherever she visited. Joyce was a die-hard baseball fan (Colorado Rockies) and loved reading, angels, and playing cards & board games with her family. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and all kinds of music (country, Christian, classical, or opera). Joyce is survived by her husband Dennis Boyce, her daughters and their spouses, Kristen & Michael Josephides, Sandra & Dan McGeen, Holly & Will Nyquist, and Michelle & Patrick Miller; her grandchildren Constantinos & Sophia Josephides, Raven, Gannon, and Bailey McGeen, Alyssa Gallegos, Isaac, Ashley, and Olivia Nyquist, and James Miller; and her siblings Susie Gordan, Bob Arkfeld, Doug Arkfeld, and Ted Arkfeld. She was preceded in death by her mother Phyllis, her father John, and her brother Chuck Arkfeld. A Life Celebration will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 23 at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave, Greeley, CO 80634. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America www.DementiaSociety.org/donate. Friends and family may leave condolences at Adamsoncares.com
