David Alan Bailey, 84, of Platteville, Colorado, passed away on August 3, 2021 in Greeley, Colorado. He was born to Lloyd and Mary (Williams) Bailey on June 10, 1937 in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in Denver and attended Wheatridge High School where he was known to be an outstanding athlete in football and baseball, and, even being invited to try out for the Denver Bears professional baseball team. He played baseball for UNC on a scholarship, and served in the Marine Corp for 3 years while he was in college. He worked for the City of Wheatridge for a couple of years, as well as working for Keebler Foods in Denver at the same time in order to save for their first house. He retired from Keebler in 1996 at the age of 59, after 30 plus years. He met and later married his wife, Mary Thyfault in December of 1959 in Denver, Colorado. Together they had one child, a son Troy. The family moved to their rural property outside of Platteville, Colorado in 1974. David was a voracious reader, reading thousands of books from many genres. He also loved any magazine he could get his hands on. David enjoyed the outdoors, especially growing trees and gardening, including growing multitudes of prized tomatoes. His favorite tree is an oak tree that he nurtured for many years, growing it into the tall beautiful shade tree it is today at the farm in Platteville. He loved running and attending Work Out West in Greeley, where he was known as the fun-loving jokster, with the instant smile. He loved to run, running 10k races, with the Boulder Bolder being his favorite. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Troy (Jill) Bailey; grandchildren, Ty Bailey and Devyn Bailey (Trey Weatherwax); great granddaughter, Beverly and his brother, Donald (Jan) Bailey. David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lloyd Bailey Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association in Care Of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
